MOLOKAI PROTOCOL AND GOOD NEIGHBOR
POLICY

 

MOLOKAI PROTOCOL
IMPORTANT INFORMATION REGARDING MOLOKAI AND BOATING – Please share
with your captain.
1. Observe a no wake (less than 5 mph) speed within 500 yards of any shoreline
or breaking waves.
2. No fishing of any type within 500 yards of shore or breaking waves.
3. No Opihi picking.
4. No harvesting of lobster, it is out of season from May to August. This is a DQ
offense for your paddler.
5. No camping on private property or non-designated camping areas,
including Make Horse Beach. The Molokai Police Department will be
sending officers to cite un-permitted camping. Camping is only allowed
at Papohaku Beach Park, and a permit from Molokai Parks Department is
required.
6. Please pick up your trash. It would be a great gesture of good will if you
could leave Molokai cleaner than when you got there.

The shoreline area will be patrolled by 2 community boats. Any escort boats not
complying with the protocol above will be recorded and its HA# will be passed to
race directors for all events that cross the Kaiwi channel. All events have agreed
to abide by these rules and ban any captains and their boats that do not respect
the rules above. PLEASE respect the local subsistence fishing lifestyle of
Molokai.

GOOD NEIGHBOR POLICY
Event Specific Rules for Kaluakoi and Kepuhi Beach
We are an official guest at Kaluakoi with several gatherings each race weekend to
celebrate the race with dinners, safety meetings, GPS pickups and Pule Blessing at
Kepuhi Beach.

Please note the following rules for race weekend:
1. No vehicles are to be driven on the lawns or pathways at any time.
2. No tents, banners, flags, lights etc. installed without prior approval.
3. All event participants must respect nonparticipants space by not congregating or
traversing within 10 feet of non-participant lanais.
4. No furniture or other items are to be removed from condo units or moved to other
locations.
5. No boards or equipment are to be left outside of the boundaries of the
participant’s rental units, except on the lawn directly in front of the participant’s
unit lanais.
