All athletes and/or teams must have their boat captain read, agree, sign, and return the boat waiver. Boat waivers can be returned to the race organization by email ( info@molokai2oahu.com) or fax 1-866-250-9550 no later than July 1st in order for the entry to be complete.
ESCORT BOAT REQUIREMENTS:
- All escort boats must meet current United States Coast Guard Standards as defined by the USCG.
- All escort boats must have ship to ship radios (VHF). Escort boats must check in with the HEAD OFFICIAL BOAT no later than 6:30am on race morning and 2 hours after the race starts. Radio Channels: VHF 71 and 72 – Ask for HEAD OFFICIAL BOAT.
- Escort boats must have at least one spotter in addition to the captain.
- All escort boats must be checked in before the start of the race. Any paddler whose boat has not been checked in will not be allowed to start the race. Water patrol will be on-hand to enforce this rule.
- Escort boats must assist any paddler or boat in distress.
- Race officials must be notified at least 24 hours prior to the start of the race of any changes to escort boat information.
SAFETY PRECAUTIONS:
- Make sure at least one person in your escort boat is CPR certied and has basic rst aid knowledge and equipment.
- Make sure the tether to your paddleboard has a quick release feature. Wear brightly colored shorts and a hat. Carry or wear a personal flotation device.
- Carry a Coast Guard approved personal location device on your person.
- Have all persons on your escort boat wear personal flotation devices. Inspect your escort boat, make sure it is safe.
- Carry shark repellent and other anti shark devices on your person or your escort boat.
- Make sure your boat has a bullhorn or megaphone so your boat can communicate with you.
- Make sure your boat has binoculars, flares, and other emergency equipment.
- Carry adequate water, food, and beverages needed to complete at least an 8 hour race. Have someone on your boat swim out to you with your water or food. Always make sure the boat is in neutral when anyone approaches it.
- Make sure your board is brightly colored on both the top and bottom and that it is identifiable to you race morning.
